Experience
- In 2008, Kimberly began the position of the online editor of The Breeze, James Madison’s University student newspaper. She collaborated with the editor-in-chief to launch a new Web site. The interactive and user-friendly navigation features videos, multimedia slideshows, and online exclusives. The new platform transformed The Breeze into a 24-hour news source for students, professors, and the Harrisonburg community.
- In March of 2009, the Associated Collegiate Press named The Breeze’s online site as one of its Pacemaker finalists. The Pacemaker is one of the most prestigious awards in the nation. The Breeze was one of 20 schools in the non-daily, four-year university category. Kimberly was recognized as the online editor.
- In Fall 2008, Kimberly completed a public relations campaign for The University Outpost, an off-campus bookstore in Harrisonburg, VA. She met with the client to discuss its brand identity, and completed a brochure, newsletter, broadcast release, and new releases for the company.
- In Fall 2008, she completed a Web site template for the School of Media Arts and Design alumni magazine, SMAD About You.
- In May 2008, Kimberly participated in a study abroad program in Malta. She completed an independent study, in which she created a promotional magazine for the program. She wrote and edited the copy text, shot each photograph, and designed the layouts. The School of Integrated Science and Technology at James Madison University will use the magazine to promote the 2010 program to prospective students.
- Since 2007, Kimberly has completed summer internships at The Herald Standard newspaper in Uniontown, PA. She collaborated with the convergence editor to produce daily, fresh online content. She edited and posted breaking-news to the Web. She was assigned to cover various local events, then shot, edited, and produced the online video content. Her responsibilities converged the newspaper departments to create a rich online user experience for readers.
- In Summer 2006, Kimberly was a stringer at The Herald Standard newspaper. She wrote six feature news articles, which were published.
Quotes
“Kimberly successfully worked with a real-life client in our class, writing numerous items that were put into use. Her skill, creativity and dedication were outstanding.”
-Dr. Corey Hickerson, School of Communication at James Madison University
“Kimberly was always ready to jump on a project, in the name of making The Breeze Web site an ever-enhancing publication. Without her ability to quickly adapt to the site, the risky relaunch would not have been a success.”
